BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola respond to Katya Jones and Wynne Evans row

Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola attempted to swerve the recent 'inside joke' row between Wynne Evans and Katya Jones at they spoke about their Strictly Come Dancing journey so far.

The pair appeared on This Morning on Wednesday (October 16) amid training for week five of the BBC One dance contest after they had an emotional weekend in the ballroom as they danced a Foxtrot to Birds Of A Feather by Billie Eilish last Saturday night (October 12).

They faced some tough critique from the judges before they were given a score of 27 out of a possible 40 from the judges and they were later seen looking relieved and grateful as they made it through to another week in the BBC One dance contest during the latest results show on Sunday night (October 13).

But appearing on This Morning with Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, the pair were quizzed about other Strictly matters, namely Wynne and Katya's scandal that, despite another impressive performance, saw them apologising in a video on social media after the latest live show.

The clip showed the moment Katya removed Wynne's hand from her waist was widely shared amongst viewers. Pro dancer Katya has since spoken out about the controversy surrounding her celebrity partner Wynne again, stating she "can't bear" how the Welsh opera singer has been "portrayed as someone he is not".

The BBC are reported not to be taking "further action" after the welfare team checked in with the Opera singer and professional dancer and "confirmed that their interactions in the Clauditorium were silly jokes they had planned together and have apologised to anyone who may have misinterpreted them," a source told the Mirror.

But when appearing on This Morning, Ben wasted no time in mentioning the backlash to Sarah and Vito, who had earlier whipped up a pasta dish in the kitchen following his Celebrity MasterChef win, as he said: "It's been a difficult week in many ways, you're on the inside of it for Wynne and Katya.

"We saw what happened on the weekend and we've seen it since they've come out and made it very clear that they're great mates and it was a joke. But it is when you understand how forensically people are pouring over the show and they're looking for the slightest bit of information or nuance to what's been going on..."

He then asked Sarah how it feels knowing she too is under the watchful eye of viewers alongside her fellow Strictly co-stars: "You just have to be who you are," she said.

The Miranda actress went on: "I think really, you've got to, especially with a show like Strictly when there is, as you say, so much attention. You've just had to go into it completely being yourself and keep doing that. You wouldn't, well I wouldn't be able to maintain something that isn't yourself.

"So, I think you just have to be who you are, react how you react to stuff and that's all you can do. I hope that people connect with that and appreciate that."

Ben then went on to question whether or not the incident surrounding Wynne and Katya had been an eye-opener to the scrutiny the dance show's stars face as he said: "They were just having a bit of fun, but actually that can get misconstrued and then that suddenly becomes a story."

But Vito interjected and echoed Sarah's sentiments before insisting they are always having fun in the training room and moved on to anecdotely shared what they go to and put an end to the quizzing.
