Jermaine Jenas makes shock return to TV as new role revealed after BBC sacking

by · Manchester Evening News

Jermaine Jenas was spotted working at Arsenal vs Liverpool on Sunday, marking his first TV appearance since his BBC dismissal. The ex-Newcastle and England midfielder, aged 41, was released by the BBC in August after a controversy involving inappropriate texts to female colleagues.

Since then, Jenas has maintained a low profile, but he did post a video on Instagram last month thanking supporters and teasing a potential comeback to broadcasting. Jenas was seen at the Emirates Stadium working for an international broadcaster during the high-profile Premier League match.

Jenas is understood to be working for the Malaysian Premier League provider Astro - it is the first match he has covered since Ipswich vs Liverpool on the opening day of the season. He is appearing alongside former Arsenal duo Martin Keown and Henri Lansbury.

After retiring from football, Jenas smoothly transitioned into punditry, becoming a familiar face on the BBC with regular spots on Match of the Day and co-hosting duties on The One Show. He was once considered a possible successor to Gary Lineker as MOTD host until the BBC announced his exit. A spokesperson for the BBC stated in August: "We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting line up."

In addition to his BBC roles, Jenas has been a fixture on TNT Sports' Premier League coverage, although he hasn't featured there since his departure from the BBC, reports the Mirror. In a recent social media video, Jenas hinted at new ventures on the horizon, expressing his enthusiasm for upcoming projects.

He shared: "There's some exciting stuff that I've been working on. So hopefully you'll have that to look forward to very soon. And hopefully I'll be back just talking about what I love really, which is football. I've been living the life of those Spurs fans who've been up and down and up and down."

Reflecting on football, he added: "(Nottingham) Forest got a great result up at Anfield and have been playing well. So I've been watching but I'm looking forward to kind of getting back and just talking about what I love most. So last of all, thank you very much and, yeah, I'll see you soon."
