Jeremy Clarkson opens up about health and fears ‘he doesn’t have long left’

by · Manchester Evening News

TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson admitted that he feels he “doesn’t have long to live” only months before he had to undergo a heart procedure after a “sudden deterioration” in his health. Earlier this year the former presenter of Top Gear, which celebrates its 22-year anniversary today, gave a candid interview about his mortality.

He told the Guardian: “I don’t have long. I’ve probably only got what, 70,000 hours left, maybe?” The emotional comments came just months before Jeremy revealed he had to undergo a heart procedure after a "sudden deterioration" in his health, Gloucestershire Live reports.

Jeremy has even tried to get healthier, but it hasn’t always gone to plan. His girlfriend Lisa Hogan revealed the pair can drink two bottles of a wine a night but, when they went on an alcohol-free health retreat to Portugal, things didn't go as planned.

She said that the juice diet made the 64-year-old star of Clarkson’s Farm so ill that he required hospitalisation for an abscess located on his back. This isn’t the first time concerns about Jeremy’s health have been raised.

Writing in his column in the Sunday Times, he talked about keeping up with his son Finlo Clarkson and taking inspiration from the first man to run the four-minute mile Roger Bannister reported the Express.

He said: “When I go with my son to Stamford Bridge, he pootles along at what people call 'walking pace' and to keep up I have to unleash my inner Bannister. Which means that for the first half of the match, I can’t concentrate on the football because I’m too busy coughing up my spleen and trying to get my breath back.”

Jeremy has also spoken about his fears about developing the neurodegenerative condition dementia as well as his own experience of losing his ability to hear. His dementia fears came after a health check-up resulted in Jeremy being told that his hearing issues had “doubled” his chances of developing dementia.
