BBC Strictly Come Dancing viewers distracted by audience member in 'bring your husband to work day'

by · Manchester Evening News

Strictly Come Dancing fans said they were 'distracted' by one of the show's latest audience members. The ballroom wasn't just littered with famous faces on the ballroom floor as a few people watching from the sidelines were pretty known themselves.

While it's only week three of the year's competition, it was a big night on Saturday (October 5) for the BBC One dance contest as it was the annual Movie Week special which saw the couples channel their inner film stars as they performed routines with songs from the likes of George of the Jungle, Harry Potter, Dreamgirls and Rocketman.

But the line-up was cut from 14 couples to 13 at the eleventh hour after DIY SOS star Nick Knowles and his dance partner Luba Mushtuk were forced to pull out of the show this weekend after Nick suffered an injury on Friday (October 4).

They due to perform the Charleston to Rain On The Roof from Paddington 2. At the start of the show, presenter Claudia Winkleman sent Nick Knowles “love” and wished him a “speedy recovery” at the start of the episode.

Meanwhile, the latest show opened with a group number from the show's professional dancers who transformed into minions from the Despicable Me franchise while Kai Widdrington, who was left without a celebrity dance partner this year, appeared as the film’s villain, Gru, donning a bald head and a prosthetic nose.

But it appears that at one moment during the show, Strictly viewers couldn't help but notice Veron Kay beaming in the background of his wife Tess Daly's link and took to social media to comment.

@jarrett_sa13172 said: "Getting distracted by Vernon Kay. Didn’t listen to Tess at all #Strictly.2 @eliza_han66954 commented: "Vernon Kay in the background bringing the lols #Strictly." @johnsysc wrote: "Vernon in the background #Strictly." @makejoshscrum added: "Vernon is an absolute king #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing."

He wasn't the only familiar face in the audience as during the show, they spotted that JLS star JB Gill was being supported by his bandmates Aston Merrygold and Marvin Humes were on the sidelines alongside their wives Sarah Merrygold and Rochelle Humes.

One said: "Marvin and Aston cheering on JB #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing." Another commented: "Great to see Marvin and Aston supporting JB #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing." @nicole_xjade noted: "Aston and Marvin in the audience #Strictly." @thequalmpeddler added: "Absolutely brilliant from JB. And he has Marv and Aston (and Roch) for support as well. 8. #SCD #strictly."

Meanwhile, Craig Revel Horwood was also heckled by Toyah Wilcox's husband, King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp, while making comments on her performance – which saw the singer perform with an octopus projected onto the dancefloor. Craig told the 'young man' to 'sit down' before host Tess revealed to him it was Toyah's husband, which saw him let out a slight laugh and break his often stern character.
