Met Office issues latest verdict on UK snow forecast amid reports of 'Arctic blast'

The Met Office has issued its latest verdict on the 'Arctic blast' which is reportedly said to be heading to the UK in the coming days. The weather and climate service has now addressed whether or not some parts of the country will see snow by the end of the month.

Reports stated that several centimetres of snow is set to fall from Monday, November 18, bringing along with it plummeting temperatures and icy conditions.

Weather maps from WXCharts claimed temperatures could drop to as low as -8C on November 20, with some reports also anticipating up to 30cm of snow and a 'four-day Arctic blast'.

But quashing these reports, the Met Office has assured that this is not what its forecasters are predicting. Instead, the sun is set to make a much anticipated return next week amidst 'no sign of snow' in the current forecast period.

Met Office spokesperson Stephen Dixon told the Independent: "There is no sign of snow in the current forecast period, but there is a bit of a change on the way over the next few days. The current cloudy conditions with patchy bits of drizzle will break up early next week to bring some sunny skies for much of the UK on Monday.

"This will bring in some chillier conditions, but many will likely enjoy the re-emergence of the sun after a somewhat gloomy start to November."

The weather expert then said unsettled weather in north-western parts of the country could be possible in the second half of November, with the chance of it spreading further south at times. He added that temperatures were likely to be around average for most, with the possibility of cooler periods at times.

This weekend the Met Office says the forecast is set to be 'chilly within the clear breaks', with possible ground for frost in parts of Scotland. Sunday will be largely cloudy with occasional sunnier intervals and feeling 'mild'

Next week the UK will see a 'much brighter start to the new working week' with sunny periods and a chance of overnight frost and fog. However, later in the week and into the next is is likely to turn cloudier again across many areas with a chance of some rain or showers at times, particularly in the north and east.
