BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Chris McCausland on 'dreaded' show 'curse' as he fears being 'victim'

by · Manchester Evening News

Chris McCausland has addressed another 'curse' spotted around Strictly Come Dancing after fans previously feared he may fall 'victim'. The comedian will be back in the ballroom this weekend alongside professional dance partner Dianne Buswell.

The pair made it through to week six of the BBC One dance contest after leaving viewers in tears with their moving ballroom number to the Liverpool anthem You'll Never Walk Alone, in a nod to Chris' beloved home city and football club.

It's since been revealed that for the show's annual Halloween special, Chris and Dianne will be taking on the Samba to to Stayin Alive’ by The Bee Gees.

But ahead of his next performance, Chris laughed off "villainous" Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood's comments about his posture - insisting "I don't know what he expects of me".

Despite scoring the comedian an eight for his and dance partner Dianne emotional Waltz last weekend, Craig couldn't help but comment on Chris' posture and the funnyman has admitted it would take "a steel rod and some shelving brackets" for him to correct his body position.

Writing in his weekly Strictly diary for The Telegraph, Chris also addressed him and Dianne taking on the "dreaded" Samba for Halloween Week this weekend, Chris jokingly warned sour-tongued Craig that he will be dressed as a "floppy old corpse".

He later said: "This week it's the Samba, and its known for being absolutely bloody horrible to do. We have lost four of our fellow contestants so far during this series, and two of them have been lost to the dreaded Samba. It's Halloween Week and so we are taking on the roles of two corpses that rise from their graves to perform to Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees."

"The thing that excites me the most about this, is that surely corpses can't be expected to have good posture can they? I am telling you all now that my poor posture is just me getting into character as a floppy old corpse honest, Craig! Decomposing Dianne and creepy cadaver Chris will be attempting the dreaded Samba for your spooky entertainment this Saturday, and I just hope we are not its third victim this series."

It comes after fans were quickly rushing to social media to share their concerns for Chris' next performance when it was revealed as the dance hasn't proved lucky for others so far in the competition and are hoping it won't turn into a Halloween horror for Chris and Dianne.

@DebbieBlackma14 said: "Oh no not the Samba for Chris #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing." @RyanTheSoapking commented: "Chris & Dianne are doing a Samba next week to Stayin Alive by The Bee Gees for Halloween. The dance of death on Halloween Week but I'm looking forward to this. #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly."

@johnrhueston asked: "What did @chrismccausland do to have to dance a samba to Stayin’ Alive? Another challenge for Dianne Buswell. #Strictly." @83VickiB posted: "I would refuse to go first and refuse to dance the samba cos it's a ticket home #strictly." @strictlyblog added: "A Halloween disco samba sounds like the most cursed routine EVER! #Strictly."
