Viktor Gyokeres fires two-word message after Man City win and Man United transfer links
by Jack Flintham · Manchester Evening NewsViktor Gyokeres continued his hot goal-scoring streak for Sporting CP against Manchester City as Manchester United eye a potential transfer for the prolific Sweden frontman.
All eyes from the red and blue halves of Manchester were on the Champions League clash last night as Ruben Amorim bid farewell to Lisbon in his penultimate match in charge - and his last at home. While City started the brighter, Gyokeres' composed equaliser just before the break turned the tide.
Maximiliano Araujo gave Sporting the lead just seconds after the interval, before Gyokeres made it 3-1 from the penalty spot. Erling Haaland's miss from 12 yards summed up City's night, while the Sweden striker concluded his hat-trick with a second spot kick.

Unsurprisingly, Gyokeres was keen to relish in the victory over City, as he posted a picture of his celebration to Instagram with the caption: "Let's go!" Remarkably, the 26-year-old already has 23 goals to his name this season, from just 17 games, and that has only stoked speculation that United may look to sign the forward once Amorim officially starts his role as head coach.
Amorim once again denied that he would be looking to sign Gyokeres, immediately, refusing to even joke about the prospect of bringing him to Old Trafford. Previously, the incoming United manager has insisted that he would not target any of his current Sporting players in the January transfer window.
This, of course, leaves open the prospect of Amorim moving for Sporting's talent next summer, a window better designed for wholesale changes. Recent January transfer windows have proven to be rather quiet affairs.
That's with Premier League clubs particularly keen not to suffer any possible punishments from Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. United, meanwhile, are formally tracking Gyokeres' teammate Geovany Quenda - who aged just 17 has earned rave reviews since his breakthrough into first-team football.
