'They are desperate' - Ruben Amorim told exactly what is happening in Man United dressing room
by Jack Flintham · Manchester Evening NewsRio Ferdinand has insisted that the Manchester United squad will be desperate for Ruben Amorim to start work and help them after a poor start to the season.
Erik ten Hag was sacked last week after leading United to their worst-ever start to a Premier League season. While the Dutchman paid the price for the bad form, there is little denying that the players also have a part to blame.
Amorim was named as the successor for United last Friday and he will start work officially on Monday, November 11. Tonight, he leads Sporting against Manchester City in the Champions League and prior to kick off, Ferdinand told TNT Sports exactly what is going through the minds of the United squad ahead of the Portuguese head coach's arrival.

"These players are in a desperate state," he explained. "We have been in changing rooms where if things aren't going well, you are clutching at straws and clinging to any type of positivity.
"These players have not performed for a long period of time, there might have been the odd performance here or there, but consistency delivers trophies over a sustained period of time. None of them can sit there and say that they have done that.
"Bruno [Fernandes] is the only one close but all the others will be sitting there going: 'Please, bring some performances out of myself, help me to become the player everyone thinks I can be, because right now I am not delivering,' that is how the players will be thinking if they are honest. Their hands will be out and going: 'Please pull me along.'"
When asked for his verdict on Amorim, Ferdinand concluded: "I think only time will tell [if United have hired the right man]. I have been known to get excited with new managers so I am not going to go overboard but I am liking what I am hearing, I am liking what I am seeing.
"We have been calling out for Man United to have an identity, a way of playing that we consistently see, and you look at this Sporting Lisbon team over the last few years and they are a consistent team and have a way of playing. He seems to deliver a particular style of football at a consistent basis and I think that is a starting point for Manchester United.
"If we see that being churned out, week in and week out, that is a huge improvement."
