Sky Glass customers complain TVs 'won't turn on' amid major outage

by · Manchester Evening News

Sky customers are complaining that they have been unable to turn their TVs on for nearly 24 hours as the company deals with a major outage.

The problems started on Thursday evening when Sky Glass and Sky Stream users reported being unable to switch on their devices. Hundreds of people reported problems to the website DownDetector.

By Friday afternoon, users were still reporting issues, with many taking to social media to complain about the outage.

One X user posted: "Sky glass off since this morning - No lights, no power, not even a flashing dot!! Anyone having the same issue?" Another wrote: "Nearly 24 hours now with no Sky Glass service, tried resetting procedure 3 times now."

A third said: "Anyone still having issues with Sky Glass?? Been without a tv for almost 24 hours now."

On Thursday evening, Sky issued an apology to customers experiencing problems. In a post on social media, Sky said: "Some Sky Glass/Stream customers are currently experiencing technical issues when trying to switch on their devices. Our technical teams are working hard to fix this. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused."

In an update on Friday, the company provided instructions on what to do if customers can't turn their telly on. Sky said: "We're aware of a problem where some customers aren't able to use their Sky Glass or Sky Stream right now." The company provided a link to a webpage with steps to try and fix the issue.

Customers were advised to switch their TV off at the mains, press and hold the standby button and switch the power back on while the button is still held down.

After trying the workaround, one user posted: "That’s cleared my issue, pleased to say that I’m back up and running again. Thank you." Another said: "Followed the recovery advice and now it's working fine. Looks like I've been lucky!"

However, some customers said they were still experiencing problems despite trying the fix. "Being doing this since 3pm yesterday and still nothing," one customer commented. Another said: "Tried this still not working."
