Harry Maguire shows true colours as Erik ten Hag waits on Manchester United injury update

by · Manchester Evening News

Harry Maguire is getting his football fix despite being absent from the Manchester United squad due to injury.

The centre-back missed last weekend's comeback against Brentford after being forced off in the closing stages of the first half against Aston Villa prior to October's international break. Maguire required help from a team-member as he limped off the pitch after impressing during that game.

He later took to social media to share an update and wrote: "Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend.

"Will be a few weeks on the side-lines, but I'll come back stronger."

Expected to be out of action for some weeks, Maguire has been active off the pitch, though. Taking to Instagram, he posted a video at Blundell Park during MK Dons' 3-1 win over Grimsby Town.

The 31-year-old was in attendance to watch his brother Laurence, who signed for League Two side MK Dons from Chesterfield this summer. Captioning the video, Maguire wrote: "Enjoyable afternoon watching MK win at Grimsby. Laurence, well played mate."

The defender is one of eight players currently side-lined with injury. Erik ten Hag remains without Mason Mount, Kobbie Mainoo, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro, Toby Collyer and Antony for their Premier League game at West Ham on Sunday afternoon (2pm).

While the Dutch manager is hopeful Jonny Evans will be back for the clash, he admitted: "Yeah, [the injuries] holds us back in our levels. And also in our position in the league.

"When you don't have the players available you can't line up with the best team and that's what's holding us back in this moment. "we need more players more often available.

"We have to work all together on this point, players, coaching staff, all the other staff we have to do better to get more available players. Because we know when we have them we are a really tough team to play and can be really successful, which is what we have shown over the last couple of months."
