BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans complain dance overmarked as they say 'how can you even compare'

by · Manchester Evening News

Strictly Come Dancing fans feel one performance in week five on Saturday night was 'overmarked' by the judges.

EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick, dressed as a matador, performed a paso doble to the flamenco song Malaguena by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona with partner Michelle Tsiakkas.

The dance left the judges impressed as Craig Revel Horwood shared a rare moment of praise for the duo, while Anton Du Beke said “you will never dance a better dance than that, you were brilliant”.

As a result, the couple were awarded 39 points, which makes them joint top of the current series.

However, while viewers at home were full of praise for the dance, many felt the judges had marked it too highly.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, @cathalhaughey02 said: "That was a wee bit overmarked. I gave it an 8", while @theatresnob wrote: "Oh for God's sake, judges! Do t you realise this leaves you nowhere to go with your marks."

Meanwhile, @Brekkietweets added: "They give 10s out far too easily now. Should be reserved for the great, not the very good. as @Evelynsmin said: "39???? I’m sorry but WHAT?? How can you even compare that with Tasha’s Charleston."

Many other fans were full of praise for the dance with @xliam93 writing: "I'd written off my Jamie to score the first perfect 40 of the series bets, but that was mighty close" and @aama25_em said: "Jamie and Michelle 39 out of 40. Should have been 40 but 39 is alright so we move."
