The cancelled teen drama fans demand gets revived as cliffhanger left them 'gutted'

by · Manchester Evening News

Netflix subscribers are demanding The Society is given a new lease of life following its untimely cancellation. The mystery teen drama first aired in May 2019 and was initially renewed for a second season.

However, it was ultimately cancelled after one season as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving fans heartbroken. Netflix had hoped to start filming season two in the late summer of 2020.

At the time, Netflix said in a statement to Deadline: "We’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with second seasons of The Society and I Am Not Okay With This. We’re disappointed to have to make these decisions due to circumstances created by COVID.

"We are grateful to these creators, including: Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for I Am Not Okay With This; Chris Keyser, Marc Webb and Pavlina Hatoupis for The Society; and all the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the world.”

The Society was described as a modern take on Lord of the Flies, which followed a group of teenagers mysteriously transported to a replica of their wealthy New England town without any trace of their parents.
