Britain's Got Talent auditions with Simon Cowell 'postponed' after Liam Payne's tragic death

Britain's Got Talent auditions are reportedly postponed in the wake of Liam Payne's tragic death. Simon Cowell is said to have made a last minute decision on Thursday morning (October 17) as the singer's death emerged overnight.

The former One Direction has died, aged 31, after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. Local police said the singer fell from the third floor into the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel in the Palermo neighbourhood of Argentina’s capital, before medics confirmed his death.

According to police in Buenos Aires, officers were initially responding to reports “of an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol”.

Payne was enjoying a holiday in Argentina alongside his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, with the pair attending Payne's former bandmate Niall Horan's gig in the country earlier this month.

The Foreign Office confirmed it is in contact with authorities in Argentina “regarding reports of the death of a British man”. But a spokesman declined to comment any further, including on the identity of the man involved.

BGT uditions were due to take place in Blackpool with the judges – Simon, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and KSI - on Thursday but  Applause store, who organised tickets for the filming, announce the changes.

According to The Sun, the companu said: "Due to the tragic passing of Liam Payne, BGT has decided to postpone today's auditions in Blackpool. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

The Manchester Evening News has contacted ITV BGT for comment.

It comes after filming for the talent show kicked off on Tuesday (October 25)with the help of hosts Ant and Dec at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens for the show’s 2025 edition.
