Pete Wicks has admitted to 'crying more than dancing' during Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals this week as he shares an emotional meaning behind his song choice for the next live show.

The former TOWIE star and podcast host is set to perform a Couple's Choice alongside his professional dance partner Jowita Przystał during week 8 of the BBC dance contest.

But Pete, 36, has now shared that there is a personal touch to the song he will be performing to on Saturday night (November 9). The star will be dancing to Tina Turner's Simply The Best, which he revealed was his nan's funeral song.

It comes as Pete and Jowita are currently sitting bottom of the leaderboard after scoring 22 points last weekend during Icons Week. However, despite their low scores, the couple managed to escape the dance off after being saved by the public vote.

Speaking about his upcoming emotional performance on the Strictly spin-off show It Takes Two on Thursday (November 7), Pete told host Janette Manrara: "This is going to be a tough one for me. Based on the fact I've not heard the song all the way through up until this week since my nan's funeral.

"My nan was my best mate and we played this at her funeral because it was her favourite song. And if there's one person that I wish was here and was able to watch me, it would be her, and she's not been."

Pete added: "So this is kind of my way of having her on this mad little adventure with me. So yeah it's been a tough week. I've spent more time crying than I have dancing."

Janette then responded: "Dancing is one of the best ways to heal and feel things that were probably hidden and needed to be felt once again."

After appearing visibly upset, Pete was then comforted by his pro dance partner Jowita who rubbed his arm. She then went on to explain that there dance will be a raw one.

"The most important thing was to keep it real and keep Pete being Pete," she explained. "This is the first time we aren't playing any roles and there is no made up story behind it. It's genuinely Pete and Jowita."

If the pair survive the public votes and dance off this week, they will earn their place in Blackpool.
