Thomas Tuchel has already given green light to Man United move amid Erik ten Hag pressure

by · Manchester Evening News

Thomas Tuchel has previously spoken glowingly about Manchester United and Old Trafford as pressure mounts on Erik ten Hag.

A goalless draw with Aston Villa meant that United go into the October international break languishing in 14th in the Premier League table. Ten Hag's side are winless in the top-flight since the 3-0 win over Southampton on September 14, including last Sunday's 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur as well as settling for a point in two of their last three.

After seven matches, United are six points off the Champions League places and five clear of the bottom three. Pressure has continued to rise on the Dutchman as he entered a defining period following the disappointment against Spurs.

However since then, United squandered a two-goal lead against FC Porto in the Europa League before Harry Maguire popped up to spare their blushes in stoppage during Thursday's 3-3 draw. They couldn't find a way through against Unai Emery's Villa, which leaves them in the bottom half of the table going into the final two Premier League games in October.

The MEN reported on Monday that Tuchel is being lined up as a potential replacement for the former Ajax head coach. While there is admiration for other candidates already at clubs, the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss is out of work with the attraction that he is immediately attainable.

Speaking ahead of the encounter with United in last season's Champions League, Tuchel highlighted the danger that the club possess as well as talking up the "aura" at Old Trafford.

He said: "They're always a dangerous team, my experience is [that] they're always very, very dangerous to play Manchester United.

"They have a certain aura and mentality that makes them very difficult to beat. They can endure difficult phases in their matches, I feel that this is part of the DNA of the club, they can overcome difficult minutes, phases in a match and still win [or] steal points.

"You see their strong moments, how strong they are, the stadium plays a big role, the spectators are emotional, it creates special moments. It's a difficult place to come but it was a strong challenge for us...

"... For me, a game against Manchester United is always a big game, it cannot be described in any other way. It's a big stage, a big club, it's one of the biggest stages in football.

"It has a certain electricity around it and to prepare, we make it very easy, we prepare the best moments and prepare for the best Manchester United team. When they're good, they're really, really good and very dangerous in all positions - tough to play."
