Police issue statement as Mike Amesbury MP summonsed to court
by Stephen Topping · Manchester Evening NewsA Wythenshawe-born MP has been summonsed to court following an alleged assault in Cheshire. Police have issued a statement confirming that Mike Amesbury, MP for Runcorn and Helsby, has been summonsed.
He is due to face the charge of Section 39 assault. The former Manchester councillor, aged 55, will appear in court at a later date.
It follows an alleged incident on Main Street, Frodsham, in the early hours of October 26. Police previously confirmed the incident had been reported that same day.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "A man has been summonsed to court in relation to an assault in Frodsham. Mike Amesbury MP, of Frodsham, Cheshire, has been summonsed to court to face the charge of section 39 assault.
"The 55-year-old is set to appear in magistrates court at a later date. The charge relates to reports of an assault on a 45-year-old man on Main Street, Frodsham, which was reported to police at 2.48am on Saturday, October 26."
