Roy Keane stuns studio audience with reaction to his daughters having boyfriends

He may have been a hard man on the pitch - but Roy Keane insists he's remarkably cool when it comes to his daughters' romantic lives.

The former Manchester United midfield stalwart is now a familiar face on our television screens. With a legacy as one of the fiercest competitors, Keane has transitioned into punditry with a bang, offering his views on Sky Sports' Premier League coverage for the past half-decade, as well as providing analysis for ITV's football offerings.

His work as co-host of the popular Stick to Football podcast offers fans further insight into his broadcast career. But as for his family life, Keane has kept that largely under wraps and away from the public eye.

He married wife Theresa in 1997 and together they had five children, four being girls. Shannon, Caragh, Aidan, Alanna, and Leah have given him his fair share of parental duties, but they're all now grown adults.

Appearing on The Tommy Tiernan Show last year, Keane was questioned about the dynamic of a female-dominated home. His blunt response of "brilliant" elicited laughter from the audience, who maybe anticipated him being sarcastic.

But Keane insisted: "No it is, brilliant. Really good kids, they're good, very good kids." Tiernan then asked him to name the hardest thing about being a dad.

The 53-year-old struggled to come up with an answer though, screwing his face up as he pondered a response. Tiernan joked: "Are you f***ing kidding me are ya?"

Keane shook his head and remarked: "No, they're ok. Listen when they get a bit older, I suppose boyfriends and that type of carry on, yeah that can be (shrugs)."

Give his guest's no-nonsense reputation, Tiernan quipped: "I'd say it'd be fairly intimidating meeting you now in all fairness. Clint Eastwood in the kitchen."

But Keane continued to play down the situation, adding: "You'd be very surprised. Surely that's the same for everybody." Unconvinced by his response, Tiernan pressed on: "You're so guarded. Maybe you're just so calm and settled and strong."

Keane maintained his composure and replied: "No, quite relaxed yeah. Do you want me to do a somersault or something? Very relaxed, nice drive up, we're good."

As for his public persona, Keane is expected to be back in the spotlight this afternoon on Super Sunday as United welcome Tottenham to Old Trafford in the Premier League.
