I spotted worrying sign that spells disaster for Erik ten Hag at Man United

by · Manchester Evening News

When a team finds itself in a difficult position on the pitch with the world against both them and their manager, supporters are on the lookout for signs of leadership and togetherness to right the wrongs.

When Manchester United fell to another humiliating defeat this season, this time at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, we saw none of that. While the sending off for Bruno Fernandes failed to help matters, there was never any sense that United could possibly fight back.

Instead of banding together, the United team instead were at each other's throats. Footage from a fan in the Stretford End on Sunday circulated online which showed the ugly confrontation.

Matthijs de Ligt, Casemiro, Diogo Dalot and Andre Onana were filmed bickering between themselves on the pitch as United faltered. Some could argue that such behaviour shows that the players care about what's happening.

However, arguments on the pitch are rarely evidence of a happy camp and that ultimately reflects badly on Erik ten Hag. The next few weeks will be critical for Ten Hag's future at the club and Ineos will be keeping a close eye over every single aspect of the ship he is running.

Seeing players openly turn on each other for the world to see does not send the message that Ten Hag is building a good environment for future success. This is not the first time that Ten Hag has found himself with his back against the wall and his future being openly speculated on.

But this time does feel different. There is a new regime and while they have said the right things at the moment about backing him, we all know that can change.

Ten Hag is in a precarious position and needs more unity from those he trusts on the pitch than we saw on Sunday or his days could be numbered.
