BBC Strictly Come Dancing's JB Gill downcast as he's supported by family amid personal Paul Merson link

by · Manchester Evening News

JB Gill looked understandably downcast as he was supported by his family in the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom. The JLS star made it through to week five of the BBC One dance contest alongside his professional dance partner Amy Dowden.

The pair opened Saturday night's (October 19) live show for the firs time with their energetic jive routine to Outkast’s Hey Ya! Motsi Mabuse said they were not "playing around" with their lively performance before all four judges awarded them a total of 30 points out of a possible 40.

But it wasn't enough and following the public vote, JB and Amy found themselves under the red light of doom as they were left in the bottom two alongside former footballer Paul Merson and his pro dance partner Karen Hauer.

Both couples performed their routines again, with JB and Amy going first with their jive before Paul and his partner Karen performed their Samba to Car Wash by Rose Royce.

The judges all favoured JB and Amy, automatically sending Paul and Karen home. It means that JB and Amy will now go back into training for the show's Halloween special, but before then, JB spoke out on finding himself in the dance-off for the first time.

Alongside a picture of him embracing his in-laws in the ballroom as well as photos of him and Amy in action during their latest routine, JB wrote on Instagram: "What a week it’s been [face holding back tears emoji]. This week has been a real rollercoaster of emotions which ended up with @amy_dowden and I in the bottom two of @bbcstrictly this weekend.

"I poured my heart and soul into the dancing this week - as I do every week and I loved every single minute of this routine, from the dance style, to the concept, to the outfits - I felt like I’d done everything I could and then to know that I was going up against @paulmerseofficial in the dance off was heartbreaking!

"Paul and I have children a similar age, we’ve stood on the sidelines of the football pitch together and now shared a dance floor together! You smashed your time on the show Paul and I’m sad to see you leave the competition but of course I’m excited that Amy and I get to dance again next week."

He added: "Thank you to ALL of you who have supported me so far, to everyone who voted last night and that have been voting since week 1. You make this all worth it. Shout out to Amy for being the most patient partner, it’s a joy to work with her every week on our new dance.

"And thank you so much to my family who are ALWAYS in my corner, supporting from near and far and coming to the show week in, week out, to be there for me. You always have my back and everything I do is for you. One thing is for sure, I’ll keep fighting and keep working hard and keep dancing with my whole heart. Week 6 here we come!"

JB also added in the comments section: "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint!" befor he was flooded with love and support.

Reality star Vicky Pattison said: "Well done son." Radio 1 host and DJ Melvin Odoom replied: "It ain’t easy bro so many great dances this week but you smashed it!" Strictly co-star Tasha Ghouri commented: "You are magic JB. You’ve got this." Actress Sophie Austin, and fiancee of fellow Strictly star Shayne Ward, added: "You got this @jbgill , only way is up now. Keeping being amazing."
