Eight coaches of Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Express derail in Assam; no casualties reported

Eight coaches of the Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express derailed at Dibalong near Lumding in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Thursday (October 17, 2024).

“The incident occurred at 3.55 p.m. and there has been no major casualty or injury. All passengers are safe,” posted Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on X. 

The cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained. The derailed coaches include the power car and the engine of the train.

An accident relief medical train has already left for the site from Lumding along with senior officers to supervise the rescue and restoration work, officials said. 

The officials said running of trains on the Lumding-Badarpur single-line hill section had been suspended. Helpline numbers had been set up at Lumding: 03674263120 and 03674263126.
