Hezbollah drone attack kills four Israeli soldiers, injures 58

Four Israeli soldiers were killed and 58 others injured in a drone strike on an army base in northern Israel, according to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

The attack, claimed by Hezbollah, targeted an IDF training camp near Binyamina, a town located about 20 miles south of Haifa.

The IDF confirmed that seven of the injured soldiers are in critical condition following the strike, which Hezbollah said was in retaliation for Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon and Beirut last Thursday.

Hezbollah’s media office stated that the group used a “swarm of drones” to attack the Golani Brigade camp, marking one of the largest assaults on an Israeli military position in over a year.

Israel’s ambulance service, Magen David Adom (MDA), initially reported that 61 people were injured, including three critically. Of the injured, 37 were transported to regional hospitals by ambulance and helicopter. There was some discrepancy between MDA and IDF reports regarding the number of critical injuries.

Images shared on social media appear to show an empty mess hall with significant damage, including a hole in the roof, suggesting the attack caught many off-guard. Many of the injured were reportedly in a communal canteen at the time of the strike.

Emergency services, including helicopters, worked throughout the evening to evacuate the wounded to hospitals in Hadera, Tel Hashomer, Haifa, Afula, and Netanya.

Israeli media initially withheld details about the location of the attack due to censorship rules, but the IDF later confirmed it occurred at the Binyamina base. Reports suggest the drones used were relatively low-tech, failing to trigger Israel’s early-warning systems.
