Coronation Street viewers were left on the edge of their seats on Monday night as David Platt was unveiled as the culprit behind the recent money theft.

The mystery began when Damon Hay's (Ciaran Griffiths) funds, intended for Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien), went missing. Fans will recall that Sarah's daughter, Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon), recently had a close call with death following a botched plastic surgery procedure in Turkey, resulting in her needing a stoma bag.

Unbeknownst to her travel insurance, Bethany didn't disclose the surgery, leaving her stranded in Turkey until she could pay her medical bills.

Upon learning about this, Damon, Sarah's ex-partner, suggested from jail that she use his hidden money to cover Bethany's expenses. However, Sarah couldn't access her voicemail from Turkey and asked her former husband, Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson), to check the messages.

Adam was shocked by Damon's message and shared the news with Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard). During their conversation, returning character Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson) approached them and overheard.

Later, Adam decided to tell Sarah the truth, who then contacted Damon, claiming she had just found out about the money. But Damon was confused as he revealed that his associate had checked the lock-up and found the cash missing, sparking a new whodunnit, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Sarah accused Adam of stealing Damon's missing cash from storage, but he strongly refuted the claim, exonerating himself and Daniel. Sarah then pointed fingers at Jesse, but Monday night's episode unveiled her brother David as the actual culprit.

David likely pinched the money to purchase his mother Gail Platt's (portrayed by Helen Worth) house, which she listed for sale to settle granddaughter Bethany's medical expenses.

Yet, eagle-eyed viewers were quick to highlight a blunder in David's scheme, flocking to Twitter, now X, to voice their observations.

One viewer tweeted: "DAVID! ohh dear! ! ! ! ! he's got the money not sure you can buy the house with that. do you? #corrie", another commented: "Surely, Gail would ask more than 50 grand for the house" and one more chimed in: "#corrie I did have a slight feeling David had the money. What will he do with it? Buy the house back?"

Coronation Street continues on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV X.
