Pete Rose, baseball's all-time hits leader, has died at 83.

He apparently passed away earlier today at his home in Vegas.

Multiple news agencies have now confirmed the news.

TMZ was the first to report the news, quoting Rose’s agent Ryan Fiterman who stated, "the family is asking for privacy at this time."

The Clark County medical examiner later confirmed his death to ABC News.

Rose was one of the greatest hitters in baseball history, collecting an amazing 4.256 hits over a career that included 17 all-star appearances, three World Series titles, World Series MVP in 1975 and National League MVP in 1973.

He also holds the record for most games played and most at bats during a career that spanned from 1963 to 1986.

However, Rose was never inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame after he was barred from the sport for betting on baseball in 1989.

He eventually admitted to it in his 2004 autobiography, but the lifetime ban remained.
