Lonavala waterfall tragedy: Search on for two missing children

by · Northlines

Pune – Last Sunday, five members of the Ansari family from Hadaspar in Pune drowned in the backwaters of Bhushi dam near Lonavla. The incident shocked everyone. Now, the reasons behind this incident have come to light.

Around 10 days ago, water was released into Bhushi dam. This caused water to accumulate in the areas near the dam. Signboards were put up clearly stating that the area was off-limits to tourists. However, the Ansari family had gone there at that time. They were unaware of the warnings on the signboards about the dangers of going there.

Meanwhile, heavy rains increased the water flow. The family did not realize the seriousness of the situation. Enthusiastically, they went some distance away and were swept away by the water currents. Four people died in the incident while one is still reported missing.

According to the police, if the Ansari family had heeded the warnings on the signboards after reaching there, their lives could have been saved. A lesson is being given through this incident for tourists to not ignore signboards at tourist places and to exercise caution around dangerously flooded areas.
