Laapataa Ladies team celebrates Oscar selection with video of Arijit Singh performance

The cast and crew of the Hindi film “Laapataa Ladies” have reason to celebrate as the movie has been selected as India's official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars 2025. To mark the achievement, members of the team have shared a video of singer Arijit Singh's live performance of the song “Sajni” from the movie.

“Laapataa Ladies” tells the story of two young brides who get lost on a train. It was released in March and produced by Jio Studios, Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Pictures.

Shortly after the Oscar selection was announced, actress Nitanshi Goel, who plays Phool Kumari in the film, reposted a video on her Instagram story that was originally shared by singer Sona Mohapatra. The clip shows Arijit Singh singing “Sajni” at his concert in Manchester, England. Goel wrote “Please take me there” along with the video.

Co-star Sparsh Shrivastav and director Kiran Rao also shared the video on their Instagram stories, expressing joy and gratitude. Rao wrote “Live in Manchester” alongside the performance footage.

The Film Federation of India cited praised the movie's portrayal of diverse Indian women in its nomination citation. It highlighted how “Laapataa Ladies” represents women who desire both homemaker and entrepreneurial roles through its lighthearted story.

With its Oscar selection, “Laapataa Ladies” is creating buzz and its team is celebrating the achievement by spreading the word about Arijit Singh's beautiful live rendition of the movie's song “Sajni” from overseas. The international recognition serves as motivation for the cast and crew's talented work.
