It has been a whirlwind past few days for star wide receiver Davante Adams and the Las Vegas Raiders.

On Monday, it was reported that Adams informed the Raiders’ brass that he’d prefer to be traded after drama started to be the name of the game early in the season.

For Adams, there has been a certain level of frustration over Vegas’ inability to compete since he was acquired from the Green Bay Packers in a blockbuster trade ahead of the 2022 season. The Raiders’ quarterback situation has also been a point of contention.

Things seemingly boiled over after an ugly Week 3 loss to the Carolina Panthers. In fact, Adams sat out this past week’s win over the Cleveland Browns with a hamstring injury.

We now have another report on this situation. It’s rather interesting stuff from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. The insider indicates that Adams is angling for a trade to the New York Jets as a way to team up with his former Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.

“New York is where the Raiders star wants to play after informing the team on Monday he prefers to be traded, multiple sources say,” Rapoport reported on Thursday. “But Adams has not demanded as much from Las Vegas, and this is not a scenario like Rodgers' in 2023 when the quarterback informed the Packers he would only play for the Jets.”

Said report also listed seven other teams that he’s open to playing for if a blockbuster deal can be reached ahead of the Nov. 5 NFL trade deadline.

That list includes the New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens.

New York Jets As A Fit For Davante Adams

Adams and Rodgers teamed up with the Packers from 2014-21. The two enjoyed a great relationship during that time, with the wide receiver putting up five consecutive Pro Bowl appearances before he was shipped off to Vegas after the 2021 campaign.

The star wide receiver has pretty much been linked to New York since Rodgers found himself traded to the Jets ahead of last season. It’s in this that Rapoport’s report shouldn’t be too surprising.

For his part, Rodgers has returned fully healthy in 2024 after suffering an Achilles injury mere plays into his debut with the Jets last season. It has not led to sustained success on offense for the 2-2 team. They rank 21st in the league in scoring at 19.0 points per game.

Teaming Adams up with star young receiver Garrett Wilson would go a long way into turning things around on this front.

49ers Among Other Teams Davante Adams Is Interested In

When fellow wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was going through his contract stalemate with the 49ers this past summer, speculation heated up about a potential deal involving Adams and the Raiders.

Ultimately, Aiyuk agreed to a four-year, $120 million extension with San Francisco. But now that Adams has seemingly requested a trade, we’ll continue to hear more about this possibility.

Longtime 49ers beat writer Mike Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle chimed in on this possibility recently.

"Hear me out: Bring the kid from East Palo Alto home and put him in a scarlet and gold uniform, while sending Aiyuk, a former high school star in Reno, back to the Silver State," Silver wrote. "How is this not win-win?"

Aiyuk has struggled to the tune of 13 receptions for 167 yards in four games after not practicing during training camp. This has also been somewhat of a point of contention in Northern California.

For the 49ers, adding Adams to the mix would give the defending NFC champs a scheme-ready Pro Bowler as they look to overcome a slugglish 2-2 start to the season. Adams also played college ball at Fresno State and was born in Redwood City. As for the Raiders, they’d be adding an All-Pro receiver that’s five years younger than Adams.

Finances Of A Potential Davante Adams Trade

Adams, 31, is currently playing under a five-year, $140 million contract. The deal runs through the 2026 campaign.

If the six-time Pro Bowler wants to facilitate a trade, he’d likely have to rework his contract. That’s primarily due to cap hits of $44.1 million in both 2025 and 2026. None of the teams mentioned above are in position to pay that out. It’s also likely that Adams would want more guarantees and a long-term commitment from an acquiring team.
