High-end U.S. audio brand McIntosh has announced the launch of its latest innovation, the PS1K powered subwoofer for adding more bass to high-end home audio systems. Designed for audiophiles and home theatre enthusiasts, the PS1K provides deeper and more accurate low frequencies.

At the heart of the PS1K are two 13-inch drivers featuring McIntosh’s proprietary Low Distortion/High Performance (LD/HP) Magnetic Circuit Design. According to McIntosh, the design reduces distortion and improves power handling. With advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) ensuring extreme linearity, the PS1K’s woofers use multi-layered carbon fiber cones for rigidity and clarity, resisting flex even at high volumes.

The PS1K’s dual woofers are driven by two 500W Class D amplifiers, delivering a total of 1,000W of output. McIntosh says the PS1K’s bass is tight and clear, loud enough for large spaces. A sealed box design and nearly 1.5 inches of enclosure baffle eliminate port noise and vibration and that’s what makes the bass response precise and clean.

The new subwoofer has been designed to complement McIntosh speakers, yet the unit is versatile enough to add to any high-end audio system. It has flexible inputs and outputs to integrate with any stereo or home theater setup. With balanced and unbalanced subwoofer connections, adjustable filters and parametric EQ, the sound can be fine-tuned to suit individual listening environments and preferences.

McIntosh’s signature Power Guard and Sentry Monitor technologies are built into the PS1K to protect the unit against overloading and short circuits. Additionally, the PS1K’s eco-friendly signal sensing and Power Control technology makes the sub more convenient and offers better power management.

The casing of the PS1K is finished with a sleek high-gloss black, carbon trim and an aluminum base. It also has glide feet for use on hard floors and spikes for rooms with carpets.

Pricing & Availability: The McIntosh PS1K subwoofer will be available in late October 2024 through authorized McIntosh retailers priced at $35,000 / £35,995 / €41,999. Mcintosh products are distributed in the U.K. by Fine Sounds.
