Some Surprising News About ‘Daryl Dixon’ Season 3’s Release Date

I did not exactly realize this was happening, but Daryl Dixon season 2 ended last night on episode 6, its big finale. One that was not…that big. Season 1 also had six episodes, but I guess I forgot that these spin-off series The Walking Dead is doing are so short, not that I necessarily hate that compared to sprawling 16 episode seasons split in half.

AMC has already released a new trailer for season 3 in a way that reminds me of what Slow Horses does on Apple TV+, able to do so because the show films so quickly after production ends on the previous season. Here, production has been well underway for the already-greenlit season 3 of Daryl Dixon, now shooting in Spain, and we have an indication on when it will return. We will not have to wait long. Maybe less than a year, given new information about a 2025 release date.

The trailer below shows Daryl and Carol back on the trail in new locations, meeting new groups including people dancing around some burning effigy not looking terribly sane. There’s a lot of desert shown as well, a sharp contrast from France. There’s a weird moment where they show Daryl and Carol together where she’s showing a good amount of skin. I don’t know if this is attempting to imply romance but more than likely she just got injured, would be my guess.

Daryl Dixon season 3 has no subtitle like “The Book of Carol” this time, as I guess they’re not doing more books. Maybe they could add something later but I wouldn’t bother. Now it’s just Daryl and Carol back doing adventures in a way that probably should have been how the series went from the start, but Melissa McBride was unable to film in France at first. Now she’s on board for the long haul.

There are apparently already plans for season 4, but no greenlight yet. It’s wildly early, but yes, AMC did give Daryl Dixon a season 3 renewal before season 2 had aired. And now we may know its potential release date.

The teaser says that Daryl Dixon will be out in 2025, meaning it will be no more than a year between seasons once again, a big difference from what we see from 95% of streaming shows which take anywhere from 18 months to three years to film new seasons. Daryl Dixon is helped by production starting early and only needing to do six episodes. I also think a factor is that producing year-round Walking Dead series for years has allowed this team to sort of get this down to a fast-moving science.

I’m not wild about Daryl Dixon as a series, but ultimately it’s watchable enough, and I think Carol added a lot this time around. I’m glad she appears to be sticking around for season 3 and apparently beyond.
