Anthony Joshua promises to ‘bring heavyweight division back alive’ in historic London fight | Joshua vs. Dubois

by · MMAmania.com

Anthony Joshua will have a tough task ahead of him when he challenges Daniel Dubois for the IBF heavyweight title later today (Sat., Sept. 21, 2024) LIVE on DAZN pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Wembley Arena in London, England, but a victory for the U.K. star will cement his spot within the heavyweight division.

Despite not holding a major boxing title at this time, the case can still be made that Joshua is the biggest star in the heavyweight division. Outside of Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, there aren’t too many fighters who can headline a sold-out show expected to bring in 96,000 fans. That’s what Joshua has manifested heading into his weekend’s clash with Dubois.

Joshua, who has won four-straight fights following two losses to the aforementioned Usyk, is coming off a memorable knockout stoppage over former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. That fight proved that there is levels in combat sports and that Joshua is at the very top one. The U.K. star will look to expand on his recent success by claiming a world title for the third time later tonight.

As for the fight itself, Joshua believes he can defeat Dubois in a variety of ways. Dubois is a dangerous champion, but he typically relies on his punching power to ward off opponents. Joshua should be able to outclass his fellow Englishman and bring the heavyweight division “back alive” on U.K. soil.

“It can happen in a variety of ways,” Joshua told ESPN. “I’m not depending on punch power; it takes a lot more to be a great fighter. I’ll break him down with my spirit.

“I showed Daniel and his whole team the respect they deserve through my training camp and that’s going to put me in good stead. I’m tough, so is he. May the best man win. Good luck to him and his team.”

“One thing when first I started boxing is, I wanted to bring the heavyweight division back alive in the U.K. So well done to everyone here as well,” Joshua continued. “What a blessing to be back again... we’re ready to rock and roll.

“I’m in supreme condition physically and mentally. I’ve been watching some of the old fights as well to remind myself what I’m capable of.”
