Nashik: 2 Agniveers Killed In Artillery Shell Explosion During Firing Practice, Army Orders Court Of Inquiry

Nashik: Two Agniveers were killed after a shell from an Indian field gun exploded during a training exercise in Maharashtra's Nashik district. 

The incident occurred on Thursday, October 10, at the Artillery Centre in the Nashik Road area. The deceased gunners, who were involved in the firing practice, have been identified as 20-year-old Gohil Vishwaraj Singh and 21-year-old Saikat.

One of the shells of the Indian field gun exploded when a team of Agniveers were practicing, causing injuries to Singh and Saikat. They were rushed to the MH Hospital in Deolali, where they were pronounced dead by the doctors.

A case of accidental death has been registered with the Deolali Camp police, based on a complaint by Havildar Ajit Kumar. Further investigation in the incident is underway.

According to a statement issued by the Indian Army, the two Indian Army Agniveers had come from Hyderabad for training at the Artillery School in Deolali, Nashik.

The Army has also ordered a court of inquiry into the incident to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, the statement read.

"General Upendra Dwivedi, COAS, and All Ranks of IndianArmy salute the supreme sacrifice of bavehearts Agniveer (Gunner) Gohil Vishvarajsinh & Agniveer (Gunner) Saikat, who laid down their lives in the line of duty while undergoing training at Devlali Field Firing Ranges, Maharashtra. Indian Army offers deepest condolences and stands firm with the bereaved families in this hour of grief," Indian Army stated in a post on X.

Agniveer Killed In Fire Extinguisher Explosion During Mock Drill

A 24-year-old Agniveer was killed during a mock drill in Rajasthan's Bharatpur last week on October 4. The Agniveer, Saurabh Pal, was injured after a fire extinguisher exploded at a training camp in Golpura Army area. 

 He was taken to hospital after the accident, but succumed to his injuries during the treatment. Pal's family was informed about the incident and his body was handed over to his family a day after.

Pal, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj, had joined the Indian Army as an Agniveer in 2023.
