Heavy rains could dampen Dussehra celebrations in Maharashtra as India Meteorological Department issued a yellow warning on Saturday.

As per the weather department, all the regions of the state are predicted to receive heavy rainfall coupled with thunderstorms and lighting.

Capital Mumbai is expected to witness a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of rain and thunderstorms on Saturday. The maximum temperature is expected to settle at 34 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature is likely to drop to 26 degrees Celsius.

Partly cloudy sky with rain and thundershower is also expected in the metropolis on Sunday.

Other districts where IMD has activated the yellow alert for Saturday are Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nasik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal.

Notably, Maharashtra is set to witness several rallies on the occasion of Dussehra which would further charge up the political environment in the poll-bound state.

Mumbai will have two major Dussehra rallies on Saturday including those by Shiv Sena (UBT) and Shiv Sena. The Uddhav faction will hold its annual Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park while the other camp led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will conduct a gathering at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai.

Supporters from both camps are expected to throng the city in large numbers for these events.

In Nagpur, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh followed the age-old tradition of holding the Dussehra rally in the city which will be crucial as it comes just ahead of the Maharashtra polls.

Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange will also hold a Dussehra rally for the first time at Narayngad in Beed district.
