EC Revises Bypolls Date In Kerala, Punjab And UP. Check Final Poll Dates For All States

Election Commission has rescheduled bypolls in Kerala, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh due to festivals and low voter turnout concerns raised by political parties.

The Election Commission of India has revised date for bypolls in Kerala, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. The byelections that were announced for November 13 have been rescheduled to November 20 due to various festivities. 

The schedule has been revised after requests from national and state parties including Congress, BJP, BDP, RLD, and other. The decision was also taken to rule out any possibility of low voter turnout, reported ANI. 

Last month, the Election Commission announced a schedule for byelections to 48 Assembly and two Lok Sabha seats. As per the initial schedule, byelections to Nanded Lok Sabha seat and Kedarnath Assembly seat were scheduled for November 20 while polling for the remaining seats was to be held on November 13. 

However, as per the latest announcement by the poll panel, byelections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Kerala will also be now held on November 20. 

Uttar Pradesh with 9 seats has the maximum number of seats that will undergo upcoming bypolls followed by Rajasthan with seven seats, West Bengal with six, and Assam with five.

Bihar and Punjab will have the byelections on four seats each, while Karnataka has three. Additionally, two seats each will be in Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Sikkim while Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Meghalaya, and Uttarakhand each have one seat. 

Wayanad (Kerala) and Nanded (Maharashtra) will have the bypolls to fill the two Lok Sabha seats.

Elections are also scheduled for the Legislative Assemblies of Maharashtra and Jharkhand. The elections to the 288-member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly will be held in a single phase on November 20. Polling for the 81-member Jharkhand Legislative Assembly will be done in two phases on November 13 and 20. 

Results for all the bypolls to Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies and the legislative assemblies of Maharashtra and Jharkhand will be announced on November 23.
