Davante Adams traded to Jets: Week 7 Fantasy Football projections for Aaron Rodgers' career-best weapons

Adams' arrival will change some things for Garrett Wilson and more

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams are getting what they wanted; a reunion on the New York Jets. The Jets are trading a conditional third round pick that could be a second round pick based on performance according to the NFL Network. Now Fantasy Football managers get to sort out what it means for their teams.

Starting with the obvious, this is awesome for Rodgers. He now has Adams, Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, and Allen Lazard. I don't believe it's a stretch to call this the best set of weapons he's ever had in his career. Rodgers currently ranks as QB20 per game with an average of 17.3 Fantasy points per game but he just had the second-best game of his season in the first game with Todd Downing calling plays. Add in Adams and there is a legitimate chance that Rodgers will be a top-12 quarterback rest of season. He's available in 45% of leagues and should be the most added quarterback on waivers this week. 

It's less certain, but this is probably a win for Adams as well. He goes from Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell to Rodgers, which is an enormous upgrade even if Rodgers has lost a step. Since the start of last year, Adams has continued to earn 10 targets per game but he's seen his efficiency and touchdown rate take a big hit. We believe that has more to do with quarterback play than Adams' skillset, though he will turn 32 in December so it could be a bit of both. It's generally not a great thing for a receiver to change teams in season, but those receivers are not typically joining their good friend and a future Hall of Fame quarterback who they've developed a rapport with for years.

The only reason I say it's less certain that this is a big upgrade for Adams is because he joins Wilson, who currently leads the NFL in targets. One thing that should be certain is that this is a downgrade for Wilson, Lazard, and possibly Hall. I would give the slightest of leans to Adams in terms of target share, with Wilson functioning as a 1B. I would give a bigger lean to Adams in the red zone, he might score 10 touchdowns rest of season. I did a trial run of my Week 7 projections and projected the target share and Fantasy production like this:

• Adams 27% target share, 16.7 PPR Fantasy points
• Wilson 25% target share, 12.7 PPR Fantasy points
• Hall 15% target share, 14.9 PPR Fantasy points
• Conklin 13% target share, 6.6 PPR Fantasy points
• Lazard 10% target share, 6.8 PPR Fantasy points

That is, of course, presuming that Adams' hamstring injury doesn't keep him out of another game. Maybe hold off on dropping Lazard until we hear confirmation that Adams is playing in Week 7, but both Lazard and Conklin are heading to the waiver wire sooner rather than later.

Wilson will remain a starter, but more of a number two in Fantasy, though his efficiency should improve with defenses focusing more on Adams. Hall will likely see a target dip, but the improved offense could help him offset that with more yards and touchdowns. I would still view him as an RB1 rest of season. 

On the Raiders side of things, this solidifies Jakobi Mayers as a target hog in a bad situation once he gets healthy. I would not be surprised if he's close to a top-25 wide receiver per game rest of season. Meyers has 28 targets in his last three games and averaged 14.1 PPR Fantasy points per game over that stretch. He and Brock Bowers are probably the only starting pass catchers for the Raiders but Tre Tucker is still worth a stash in deeper redraft leagues and most Dynasty leagues.
