🔴 Live: Israel targets Hezbollah HQ in Beirut as border clashes continue

by · France 24

Summary:

  • Israel's military said Thursday it had hit Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters in the Lebanese capital.
  • Earlier Thursday, Israel launched a deadly air strike on central Beirut, killing at least nine people at a Hezbollah-affiliated medical facility.
  • The Israeli army issued a new evacuation order in areas of southern Beirut where it will target Hezbollah sites.
  • The Iran-backed militant group said it fought off Israeli troops who sought to advance at the Fatima Gate, a former border crossing in southern Lebanon.
  • The Lebanese Red Cross said an Israeli strike killed a Lebanese soldier and injured four of its medics as they were evacuating wounded people from southern Lebanon.
  • At least 1,974 people have been killed in the recent Israeli offensive in Lebanon, the Lebanese health minister said Thursday.

Yesterday's key developments:

  • Israel vowed to retaliate to an attack by Iran during which Tehran fired around 200 missiles towards Israeli territory. “We will respond. We can locate important targets and we can hit them precisely and powerfully," an Israeli military chief said.
  • After the US pledged support for Israel in the wake of Iran’s attack, President Joe Biden ruled out supporting an attack on Iran’s nuclear sites. The US will try to align perspectives with Israel on an appropriate response over the coming days, a senior official said.
  • Israel’s military and Hezbollah reported a series of clashes in southern Lebanon as Israel continues what it describes as a "limited" ground operation in the area. Eight Israeli soldiers were killed in combat in Lebanon, the Israeli military said.
  • Hamas's armed al-Qassam Brigades claimed responsibility for a shooting in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv on Tuesday that killed at least seven people.
