Baby name experts predict most popular names for 2025 for girls and boys

Nameberry has released its predictions for the most popular baby names and trends for 2025 - and it seems as though 'actual baby names' are on the rise

by · Daily Record

Choosing a baby name is a significant decision for every parent, often involving much deliberation. To assist in narrowing down the choices, baby name experts at Nameberry have unveiled their list of baby name trends for 2025, revealing the names you might hear more frequently in school playgrounds in the future.

They predict that 'actual baby names' will make a comeback, replacing 'elderly' names such as Edith, Dorothy, Arthur, and Charles. A statement from Nameberry reads: "If the past few years have emphasised 'you're naming an adult, not a baby', 2025 will embrace the inverse. Some of the trendiest baby names are clearly meant for babies.

"Inspired by notable influencer babies like Nara Smith's Whimsy Lou, Jaci Marie Smith's daughter Benny, and Savannah LaBrant's son Blue, parents are increasingly choosing nicknames on the birth certificate and new playful names. Rhythm plays a crucial role. These lively names are often paired with a single-syllable middle name to create a sing-songy effect, like Rio Rose, Klarity Doll, and Aero Lore - all recent celebrity baby names."

Here are Nameberry's top 30 baby name predictions for 2025:

Reddit users have been sharing their insights on choosing the perfect name for a child. One user commented: "I feel it in my gut. One of my kids even came to me in a dream and told me her name before she was born. The same thing happened with one of my angel babies."

Another shared: "It literally means that it just feels right. When you look at the baby and imagine yourself calling them by that name and it just doesn't seem to fit then it's just not the right name for them. It's just a gut feeling sort of thing."

A third remarked: "We picked three for each child, didn't tell anyone, then decided after they were born and we saw their face to see which name fit them."
