Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has revealed Katya Jones' fiery reaction to his constant jokes about her Celebrity MasterChef appearance.

Wynne, 52, was named the champion of the BBC cooking show last year and made history as the first winner from Wales. Meanwhile, his Strictly partner Katya, 35, didn't make it past the heats in 2022.

Since being teamed up on Strictly, Wynne confessed that bringing up Celebrity MasterChef had become a "sore subject" during rehearsals, much to his amusement.

When asked if he could secure another victory, he said: "Well, that's a bit of a sore subject. Some people - Katya - didn't do so brilliantly on MasterChef, so I try not to talk about it.

"I only bring it up - I now limit myself to doing it 10 times a day, saying that I actually won MasterChef," reports Wales Online.

Revealing her fiery comeback, he told Heat Magazine: "And, every time, she says, 'Yes, but I've won the Glitterball'. So, we've got one trophy each."

After demonstrating his culinary prowess, the opera singer has also been wowing the Strictly judges with his dance moves.

Just last weekend, he and Katya earned 34 points for their Tango routine, putting them joint second on the leader board.

However, away from the dance floor, the pair caught the attention of social media users with an "inside joke" that was captured on camera.

Strictly fans noticed that Katya pushed Wynne's hand away from her waist while grinning, and later appeared to ignore his attempt at a high-five.

Following a backlash and suggestions that the dancer seemed uncomfortable, the duo have come forward to their supporters to explain it was all in jest.

Speaking on 'Strictly: It Takes Two,' Katya addressed the incident: "I have to make this absolutely clear, that this whole incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night, it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke, yes, was it a bad joke, yes."

She added emphatically, "Even the idea that it made me feel uncomfortable or offended in any way is total nonsense."

On his part, during his BBC Radio Wales show, Wynne remarked: "I'm absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day.

"It's not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we're really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke."

He accepted: "It was a stupid joke that went wrong, OK? We thought it was funny. It wasn't funny. It has been totally misinterpreted."

The BBC reported that a source from Strictly confirmed that their welfare team had "checked in on the pair and there are no further actions planned".
