BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans 'spoken to by bosses' after awkward Katya Jones moment

Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans was seen with his hands behind his back on the Sunday night results show and viewers reckon it was because he was 'spoken to' by bosses.

Strictly Come Dancing enthusiasts reckon they've clocked that Wynne Evans was given a telling off by producers after footage of him getting his hands swatted away by his professional partner Katya Jones circulated on social media.

The pair have been caught up in online controversy following Saturday night's show, where Wynne's caress on Katya's waist led to her pushing his hand aside. Home audiences picked up on the exchange, voicing concerns that Katya appeared to be uncomfortable.

The incident took place after an attempt by Wynne to high five Katya, who seemed to ignore him, swiftly turning back to face the camera, the Mirror reports. However, during Sunday night's episode – which is recorded right after Saturday's live show – the opera singer stood markedly with his hands behind his back.

Spectators flocked to social media to air their views on the scenario. One person posted: "Wynne with his hands behind his back on the results show, did the producers tie his wrists together? "

Another commented, "Absolutely no doubt where peoples hands are tonight," and yet another remarked, "Wynne standing with his hands behind his back! ! ".

Following the event, both Katya and Wynne have downplayed the awkward interactions as "in jokes" with Katya expressing she "can't bear" the way her 52-year-old dancing companion has been depicted.

A BBC insider told the Mirror about the recent controversy: "Wynne and Katya have confirmed that their interactions in the Clauditorium were silly jokes they had planned together and have apologised to anyone who may have misinterpreted them.

"They addressed them on Wynne's Instagram, where their apology can be found. Katya would like to clarify further that she was not offended by Wynne and was not made to feel uncomfortable in the least – she has also clarified on her Instagram. The welfare and production teams have checked in on the pair and there are no further actions planned."

On the BBC spin-off show It Takes Two, Katya voiced her frustration over the situation which has been a hot topic on social media. She expressed her annoyance at how the incident had "get something out of the way that I feel overshadowed our performance for absolutely no reason".

Katya vehemently denied any suggestion that she felt "uncomfortable or offended", dismissing the claims as "total nonsense". Speaking to host Fleur East, she said: "Quite frankly I can't bear sitting here watching this man being portrayed as someone he is not".

She added: "And in fact it couldn't be further away from the truth so I have to make this absolutely clear, that this whole incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night, it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke, yes, was it a bad joke, yes."
