Horror double-decker school bus crash leaves woman and child fighting for life

Four other children were hurt in the smash.

A young boy and a woman are fighting for their lives in hospital following a horror school bus crash which also saw four other children injured.

The incident, which involved a double decker school bus and a silver Vauxhall Astra, took place at around 8.45am and saw emergency services racing to the scene, The Mirror reports.

The woman, who is in her 30s, and the youngster suffered life threatening injuries in the collision, which took place on the B3296, Meaver Road in Mullion, Cornwall.

The other four children sustained minor injuries and received treatment. Police said emergency services rushed to the scene at around 8.40am on Monday morning following reports of the crash.

Devon Live reported the two occupants of the Vauxhall - a woman in her 30s and a young boy - sustained life-threatening injuries.

Their next of kin have been made aware, and police said they "working closely" with the school to make sure the children who were on the bus at the time receive "suitable support".

Officers are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "We are working closely with the school to make sure that suitable support is in place for the children involved.

"Anyone with any relevant information or dashcam footage which may assist the investigation is asked to contact police via the force website or by calling 101, quoting 50240260109."

The Coastguard were also involved in the emergency response, which saw one of the injured air lifted to hospital for treatment in an air ambulance.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard told local media: "At around 8.45am today (Monday 14 October), HM Coastguard was made aware of an incident involving multiple vehicles at Mullion, Cornwall.

"Coastguard Rescue Teams from Falmouth, Mullion, Porthoustock were called, alongside HM Coastguard rescue helicopters from St Athan and Newquay.

"South Western Ambulance Service and Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service were also on scene. A casualty was taken to hospital by helicopter, and two casualties were transferred to hospital via ambulance."
