An ex-Premier League star has reportedly been found dead in his swimming pool in Greece, aged just 31. Multiple outlets in Greece have reported the shocking news, with tributes pouring in for Former Sheffield United star George Baldock, reports the Mirror.

Concerns were allegedly raised after Baldock's wife was unable to contact him after many hours without receiving a response. Baldock was reportedly discovered in the pool, and emergency services were contacted, with a doctor from the response unit confirming his tragic death.

The defender most recently played for Greek giants Panathinaikos after having spent seven years with the Blades between 2017 and 2024 and previously also representing MK Dons, Northampton and Oxford.

Baldock, who was reportedly a target for Celtic back in 2021, qualified to play for Greece through his grandmother and made 12 appearances for the national team. Greece are scheduled to meet England at Wembley Stadium on Thursday night, though Bladock was left out of the squad due to injury.

Following the devastating news, Panathinaikos darkened down their Instagram and X profile pictures. A statement from the Greek Super League read: "The entire Super League football family expresses its deep sorrow for the untimely loss of Panathinaikos and our national team footballer, George Baldock, and extends its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Baldock, a fan favourite at Bramall Lane, made 219 appearances for the Blades in all competitions, scoring six goals. He twice helped United gain promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.

He began his career at MK Dons, where he would make 125 appearances. In addition to Northampton and Oxford, he spent time on loan at Tamworth and Icelandic club IBV. His older brother, Sam, is also a former professional footballer.
