Strictly's Wynne Evans says 'I try not to talk about it' over Katya Jones' 'sore subject'

Strictly Come Dancing's Katya Jones has hit back at her celebrity partner Wynne Evans after he admitted to constantly teasing her about Celebrity MasterChef

by · Daily Record

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Wynne Evans has revealed Katya Jones' heated remark in retaliation to his constant jibes regarding Celebrity MasterChef.

The 52 year old, who made history as the first Welsh winner of the renowned BBC cookery contest last year, has been playfully teasing his dance partner Katya, 35, about her less successful run on the show's heat in 2022.

Wynne confessed that bringing up Celebrity MasterChef had become a sensitive topic during rehearsals, much to his amusement.

While being interviewed, he explained his enjoyment in reminding her of the cooking competition, saying: "Well, that's a bit of a sore subject. Some people - Katya - didn't so brilliantly on MasterChef, so I try not to talk about it."

"I only mention it - I now restrict myself to doing it 10 times a day, saying that I actually won MasterChef.", reports Wales Online.

Sharing Katya's fiery comeback, Wynne told Heat Magazine: "And, every time, she says, 'Yes, but I've won the Glitterball'. So, we've got one trophy each."

Outside the realm of culinary achievements, the opera singer has been dazzling the Strictly judges with his fancy footwork.

Just the other week, Wynne and Katya earned themselves a notable 34 points for their Tango, securing a joint second-place position on the scoreboard.

However, it's not just their steps making waves; fans were shocked by an "inside joke" caught on camera involving the two.

Attentive Strictly fans spotted a moment when Katya appeared to brush off Wynne's hand from her hip with a smile, and a subsequent instance where she seemed to ignore his high-five attempt.

After some public disapproval and visible unease from the dancer, the duo clarified their stance, insisting it was all in jest.

Katya elaborated on the incident during Strictly: It Takes Two, stating: "I have to make this absolutely clear, that this whole incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night, it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke, yes, was it a bad joke, yes."

"Even the idea that it made me feel uncomfortable or offended in any way is total nonsense."

On his BBC Radio Wales programme, Wynne expressed his dismay: "I'm absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day."

"It's not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we're really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke."

"It was a stupid joke that went wrong, OK? We thought it was funny. It wasn't funny. It has been totally misinterpreted."

The BBC reported that according to a Strictly insider, the show's welfare department had offered support to the pair, deciding no further measures were necessary.
