Hurricane Milton Florida - Taylor Swift donates $5 to charity relief as death toll rises

The singer made the major donation following her previous help for tornado relief in Tennessee.

Taylor Swift has donated $5m to US hurricane relief efforts related to hurricanes Helene and Milton.

The singer made the major donation following her previous help for tornado relief in Tennessee.

The money was donated to the charity Feeding America, which thanked Swift.

Feeding America CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot said the charity was: “incredibly grateful … This contribution will help communities rebuild and recover, providing essential food, clean water, and supplies to people affected by these devastating storms."

She went on: “Together, we can make a real impact in supporting families as they navigate the challenges ahead. Thank you, Taylor, for standing with us in the movement to end hunger and for helping communities in need.”

The donation came as Hurricane Milton made landfall with Florida leaving three million homes without power and mains water.

Milton has already led to a number of deaths with emergency services fearing worse to come.

There are fears that in some parts, water levels could rise to as much as 15 feet.

Some parts of the States are seeing more rain than since records began.

The natural disaster comes less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene swept through the northern part of the state towards Georgia and the Carolinas, causing huge flooding and other damage.

Swift is known for her philanthropy during natural disasters.

In December 2023, Swift gave $1m to tornado relief efforts in her home state of Tennessee, after six people died and hundreds of buildings were damaged.

She gave another $1m in 2020 for the same cause.

She has also frequently donated to food banks, including the Edinburgh Food Project during her record-breaking Eras tour which saw her play three record-breaking dates at Edinburgh’s Murrayfeld Stadium.

Swift is due to perform in Florida next week.

The final leg of the Eras tour is scheduled to begin at Miami Gardens on October 18, before visiting New Orleans, Indianapolis and Toronto, and concluding in Vancouver on December 8.

The total revenue for the tour, which began in March 2023, is expected to reach $2bn.

Keith Urban, Luke Combs, Eric Church and other country musicians set a "Concert for Carolina" benefit for Oct. 26 to help one of the regions worst hit by Helene. The event will take place at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Country superstar Dolly Parton donated $1 million of her personal funds to a Tennessee nonprofit. Her businesses, including the Dollywood theme park, added another $1 million.
