Sony Marks 30 Years Anniversary of PlayStation with Special Edition Gear

by · Gizchina

Sony is marking the 30th anniversary of its PlayStation brand by releasing a set of limited edition items. These include a special grey version of the PlayStation 5, the new PlayStation 5 Pro, the DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, and the PlayStation Portal. The special edition gear pays tribute to the original PlayStation, launched in 1994, with a grey design that mirrors the first model. Both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro come with grey outer panels and darker grey inner parts. Each console also has the four-colour PS logo from the 1990s and a 30th-anniversary logo on the back. The logo is embossed as a repeating pattern on the inner side of the panels.

In these bundles, the matching DualSense controller keeps the grey look with the same four-colour logo and special textured anniversary design. The controllers come with a unique USB-C cable, styled to look like the old PS controller cable. The stand for the consoles also matches the grey tone.

Bundle buyers will get gifts

Sony did not stop there as buyers of these bundles will also get extra goodies. These include rubber ties shaped like PlayStation icons, a sticker, a PS-themed paperclip, and a poster. There are 30 unique poster designs, and each bundle will have one. As these consoles are digital-only, buyers can choose to add a grey disc drive to match the console if they want.

The PlayStation Portal handheld device is also getting the same design, with grey colour and logos. It will be sold on its own but will match the rest of the limited edition gear perfectly. Both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro will be sold in special boxes, styled after the look of the original PlayStation packaging.

The PlayStation 5 Pro bundle is the more premium option. It comes with both the standard DualSense controller and the upgraded DualSense Edge controller. It also includes a charging station and all the extra goodies mentioned before. Sony will make only 12,300 units of the Pro bundle, with each unit having a number printed on the side. Pre-orders for these items begin on September 26, except for the standard PS5 digital edition. This edition will be open for pre-order starting October 10. All items will be on sale from November 21, with pricing details still to be shared.
