Two BBC Strictly Come Dancing Stars sparked two common gripes among fans with their latest performance that saw them joyously bring a Strictly first to life. During the highly-anticipated Movie Week, which marks week three of the current series celebrated on Saturday night (October 5), Dr Punam Krishan and Gorka Marquez performed Bollywood-inspired moves, wowing spectators with their emotional display.

The dance show kicked off with a minion-themed group dance by the professional dancers from the Despicable Me movies, and Kai Widdrington made an appearance as Gru, complete with a bald cap and prosthetic nose. Following last weekend's surprising first elimination, it was time for this year's hopefuls to return to the dance floor.

Dr Punam, from Morning Live, alongside her Spanish partner Gorka, took on the first couple's choice dance of the contest's 20th series, performing to Bole Chudiyan from the Bollywood classic Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. The pair joint scored second place with 33 points, prompting judge Shirley Ballas to let out "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" in tune with her Mary Poppins costume.

Before taking the stage, Dr Punam told of her desire to celebrate her heritage through dance, saying during practice: "I never saw Indian girls dancing on mainstream television so to be doing now an Indian dance on a platform like Strictly is huge."

She recounted the loss of her grandfather in India during the Covid pandemic and expressed, "he'll be watching and he'll be really proud, as will my mum". She continued: "We didn't grow up with much, we didn't have a lot, but we got there," reports the Manchester Evening News.

When Claudia Winkleman asked about the significance of performing a Bollywood routine, Dr Punam was visibly moved and shared: "It meant everything." She went on to say: "I feel like I just went to four-year-old me that would have loved to see something like this when I was growing up, and I guess you just can't be what you can't see."

Strictly fans took to social media to laud the performance, yet they had two particular grievances: it was too short as they craved more, and the dance was not scored as high as they felt it deserved.

@littlemissgwendolen tweeted: "Far too short, I could've watched them dance for hours. Bollywood week should definitely be made a new category. Just imagine the dances, the music, the outfits! It would be amazing."

@fromkelltobell wrote: "Two complaints...... undermarked and not long enough. Absolutely loved this!! I don't think I even watched Gorka." Twitter user @elr320 commented: "Incredible, I think they have been undermarked every week. Dance of the night."

Another user, @yorkshirerosecandles, expressed: "One complaint, it was too short. It was amazing and I didn't want it to end." Additionally, @atvfriend chimed in with: "Punam and Gorka What a treat watching a new genre of dance, Punam danced her out, and she enjoyed her best dance, and I loved, more please #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly."
