Liam Payne funeral date as family plan to bring body back to UK within days

The funeral of Liam Payne, the 31-year-old singer and former One Direction star, is expected to take place next month as authorities in Argentina continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his tragic death. Fans of the group have been holding impromptu vigils and memorials to pay their respects to the singer, who was also a father to a seven-year-old son, Bear.

Liam suffered fatal injuries after falling three floors from his balcony at the CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires. According to the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office in Argentina, no one else is being sought in connection with his death, and it is believed that he may have fallen from the balcony in a state of "semi or total unconsciousness" due to the presence of drugs and alcohol in his room.

Liam's parents, Karen and Geoff, have travelled to Argentina to formally identify their son's body and arrange for his return to the UK. However, his body is expected to remain in Argentina for up to 15 days pending the results of toxicology tests.

Reports suggest that Liam had multiple drugs, including crack cocaine and methamphetamine, in his system at the time of his death, and prosecutors have indicated that he may have experienced a substance abuse-induced breakdown in the moments leading up to his fall, as he was reportedly behaving aggressively in the hotel reception just minutes before his death. The initial findings from an autopsy have revealed the cause of death as "multiple traumas" leading to "internal and external bleeding" according to a statement from the Public Prosecutor's Office.

They determined that the injuries resulting from the fall were too severe to survive. "The head injuries were sufficient to cause death, while the internal and external haemorrhages in the skull, chest, abdomen and limbs contributed to the mechanism of death," read the official release, reports the Mirror.

Although the comprehensive autopsy results are pending, Liam's passing is currently labelled as "inconclusive" while inquiries proceed. Officials are in the process of exploring leads, including statements from two women seen with the singer on the day he died, and questioning hotel employees.

Efforts to identify the individual who provided Liam with drugs are ongoing and could extend over several days. The case might wrap up swiftly, as authorities do not suspect foul play; however, this provides little solace to Liam's family, who may face an additional inquest in the UK.

Once that occurs, Liam's remains will be returned to his family for repatriation to England, indicating that his funeral could potentially take place at the start of November. The British Embassy is assisting Liam's bereaved family with the arrangements, and it is anticipated that the funeral will be held in the singer's hometown of Wolverhampton.

It remains uncertain whether there will be an official memorial for fans to honour Liam, as the funeral itself will be a private event, attended by the singer's immediate family and friends.
