Strictly Come Dancing's Nick Knowles shares 'update' on injury ahead of show decision

BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Nick Knowles will learn on Thursday whether he is fit enough to perform this weekend, after injuring his shoulder and arm

DIY SOS frontman Nick Knowles has admitted that he is unsure if he will be able to take to the dance floor for this Saturday's Strictly Come Dancing after sustaining a shoulder and arm injury whilst changing a tyre. The 62 year old, partnered with professional dancer Luba Mushtuk, updated fans on his condition in a video shared on his Twitter/X account after a day of rehearsals.

He said: "So a bit of an update for you. I've just got out of soaking in the bath after a day's training, which went very, very well. The shoulder is repairing very well. I saw a great physio today as well that's helped enormously."

Knowles revealed a decision on whether he can perform his American Smooth routine will be made on Thursday afternoon, adding: "So, I get another day's training tomorrow. The decision will be made tomorrow afternoon, whether I can actually compete on Saturday. I'm doing my level best to get there - keeping my fingers crossed. So, hopefully see you Saturday."

According to sources speaking to The Sun newspaper, Knowles is determined to recover in time for the show and is pleading with bosses to allow him to compete. They told the publication: "Nick is desperate to carry on and is insisting he is fine to perform but the BBC are naturally wary."

"If Nick continues and does more damage to himself in the long run it puts them in a tricky position. His health comes first but Nick is pleading with them to continue.", reports the Mirror.

However, time is of the essence for the pair's dance routine preparation if they get the green light to perform. A source mentioned: "Nick needs to learn a whole routine, he has barely any time at all. If he is cleared he will need to learn quickly. Luba is an amazing teacher and she is confident they can do it. But, ultimately, it might get to a point that the BBC just put their foot down."

After his accident, Nick was seen with his arm in a sling and took to Instagram to talk about his mishap.

"As you can see my arm is in a sling and that's because my car broke down at the side of the motorway," he explained. "I had my little boy in the car, so I wanted to change the tyre as quickly as possible. In the process of hurrying to get the wheel off, I managed to damage my shoulder and arm a little. I'm not sure how, but it's been quite painful."
