Srinagar, Oct 26: Iran on Saturday said two of its soldiers were killed in Israeli attacks while claiming that its air defences countered the strikes.

The Israeli army says it carried out strikes on military targets in Iran in response to what it said were months of attacks by “Iran and its proxies” in the region.

Several explosions were reported around Tehran. Air defence systems activated in the capital as Iranian media report none of the military sites belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have been hit.

Iran’s air defence headquarters, in a statement, as per Al Jazeera, confirmed that bases in the provinces of Ilam, Khuzestan and Tehran were targeted but the attacks were “successfully countered”. There was no immediate indication that oil or missile sites were hit.

Israel’s military says its retaliatory attack has been “completed”, as Iran says it is “entitled and obligated to defend itself”.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry called the attacks “the Zionist regime’s aggressive actions against several military centres in Iran”, saying it is “entitled and obligated to defend itself”.
