Two Chinese nationals shot at, injured in Pakistan's Karachi amid rising security concerns - Greater Kashmir

New Delhi, Nov 5: Two Chinese nationals were shot at and injured in Pakistan’s commercial hub-Karachi-, police and hospital officials said Tuesday. The attack comes amid a rise in attacks targeting Chinese citizens in the country.

This incident comes on the heels of recent violence in late October when two Chinese were killed in a blast that has prompted China to call for enhanced security measures for its nationals in Pakistan, news agencies reported.

Faizan Ali, a senior superintendent of police, confirmed to Reuters the shooting of the two Chinese individuals, though details remain limited. The spokesperson for Liaquat National Hospital, where the injured are being treated, also reported that one of the victims is in critical condition.

While it is unclear who carried out the attack, recent events have heightened fears among Chinese nationals living and working in Pakistan.

Chinese investments and infrastructure projects in Pakistan, especially those linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), have faced resistance from separatist militant groups such as the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).

The BLA, active in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, has intensified attacks on Chinese assets and personnel, asserting opposition to what they view as an exploitation of regional resources without adequate local benefit. Last month, a bombing near Karachi’s international airport killed two Chinese engineers in an attack claimed by the BLA.

China’s embassy has repeatedly urged Pakistan to ensure robust security, a concern that has become increasingly pressing for the Chinese community, given the recurring incidents.
