Before federal authorities arrested her son Sept. 16, Combs was seen in pictures with him earlier this year and appeared to be in good spirits as they conversed with and waved at fans in Miami. But on Sunday, in a statement released through her attorney, Natlie G. Figgers, Combs released a statement defending her son from sexual abuse and racketeering allegations.

“I come to you today as a mother that is devastated and profoundly saddened by the allegations made against my son, Sean Combs,” her statement starts. “It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies. To bear witness what seems to be like a public lynching of my son before he has had the opportunity to prove his innocence is a pain too unbearable to put into words. Like every human being, my son deserves to have his day in court, to finally share his side, and to prove his innocence.”

Combs said she believes her son’s accusers are driven by the quick 2023 settlement of his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura’s case and are seeking a payout.

“These individuals saw how quickly my son’s civil legal team settled his ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit, so they believe they can receive a quick payday by falsely accusing my son,” she says. “False allegations of sexual assault thwart true victims of sexual violence from getting the justice they deserve. To make matters worse, the federal government is now using these lies to prosecute my son.”

While she does her best to defend her son, Combs adds that Diddy is not perfect and has lied about his past actions, including Cassie’s assault, which the world saw via a leaked 2016 hotel surveillance video.

“Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit one part of the story, especially when that truth is outside the norm or is too complicated to be believed,” she continues. “This is why I believe my son’s civil legal team opted to settle the ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit instead of contesting it until the end, resulting in a ricochet effect as the federal government used this decision against my son by interpreting it as an admission of guilt.”

Combs also says that she will never forget all the jokes the world has made about her son’s private life and that it is “agonizing” watching the world turn against her son who was once beloved and revered by the entertainment industry.

More from her statement below:

I ask his supporters, fans, colleagues, friends, and the public, to not judge him before you’ve had the chance to hear his side. I beg you to think about those who have been wrongfully persecuted, to remember that not everyone who has made mistakes in life deserves to have their entire existence judged by a single action or a few mistakes. My son is not the monster they have painted him to be, and he deserves the chance to tell his side. I can only pray that I am alive to see him speak his truth and be vindicated.”

Her statement comes just days after it was announced that a lawsuit including more than 100 plaintiffs is pending. The suit accuses the disgraced rap figure of sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

Many of the women in the suit claim they were invited to one of Diddy’s parties, had their drinks laced with drugs and woke up the next morning with bruises and tearing in their private areas. Some of the women in the suit also claim to have been minors at the time of their assault.
