25 feared dead as school bus catches fire in Thailand

At least 25 feared dead as school bus carrying forty four people including young students and their teachers caught fire in suburban Bangkok if Thailand on Tuesday, according to officials.

According to Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungruengkit, the bus was heading from central Uthai Thani to Ayutthaya for a school trip when it caught fire around noon near the Pathum Thani province.

According to reports, the bus lost contrl after a flat tyre and crashed into a pole. Following the crash, the bus caught on fire.

The authorities has not confirmed about the number of fatalities yet. Investigation and rescue is underway at the scene. They are speculating that around 25 people have been burned to death in the fire as only sixteen students and three teachers were rescued. The other 22 students and three teachers are still unaccounted for. They are yet to recover many bodies from the bus as the inside of the bus is too hot for them to carry out the operation. Bodies were still inside the bus hours after the fire.

The videos shared on social media platform shows the bus burning wit a huge fire and big plums of smoke rising to the sky.

The country’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra offered her condolences in a post on social media platform X. She has assured that the government would take care of medical expenses and compensate the victims’ families.
