Jammu and Kashmir polls phase 2: People gather to cast vote amid heavy security blanket

Jammu and Kashmir: In the second phase of voting in the Jammu and Kashmir polls people were seen queuing up in the booths on Wednesday, said reports.

A heavy blanket of security was witnessed in and around most polling booths in the state. People queued up in various constituencies to vote in the second phase of the Assembly elections today. Eligible voters in 26 constituencies across six districts of the UT are exercising their franchise today.

A voter Hagi Karam Din Bhat, who said he is 102 years old, casts his vote for the second phase of Assembly elections at a polling centre in Reasi.

He told ANI, “If a good government is formed a lot of work will be done…The youth should get a good education, businesses should be set up…Everyone should come and cast their votes and appeal to all the voters to come and vote…”

After casting his vote, JKNC candidate from Mendhar assembly constituency, Javed Rana told ANI, “Democracy is being restored in J&K after a very long time…I appeal to the voters to vote for JKNC so that we can prove that the decision taken on 5th Aug 2019 was wrong”

BJP has fielded Murtaza Ahmed Khan while Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party has fielded Nadeem Ahmed Khan from the constituency.

At a polling station set up for Migrant voters at the Northern Zonal Accountancy Training Institute in Jammu. The first voter planted saplings after casting her vote.

District Election Officer Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan told ANI, “There are 436 polling stations (in Reasi) and polling has begun on all of them. We can see the enthusiasm among voters…We ope that this continues till 6 pm. All facilities have been provided, water has been arranged and we have also given directions for arrangement of chairs as well as tents…Senior officers are here in the control room, all polling stations are being monitored…If any issue is coming up, the team is helping from here in resolving the same.”
